Baseball Splits with Riverland
Teton Baseball opened the spring trip with Riverland Community College yesterday. The Tetons won a pitching dual in the first game. Sophomore right handed pitcher Brody Forno gave the Tetons six scoreless innings allowing only five hits and recording ten strikeouts. The game was tied at one going into the bottom of the seventh when the Tetons offense was sparked by Shane Cowan and Cameron Goff who both singled the start the inning. The Tetons decided to go with a pinch runner in Colby Dills to bring more speed to the bases as the winning run was now in scoring position. Greyson Mcdaniel laid down a sacrifice bunt that would ultimately win the game as the Devils made an attempt to get the lead runner at third, but an overthrow throw past the third baseman allowed Dills to win the Game for the Tetons 2-1. Game two was dropped 5-3 as the comeback fell just short.
Coach Przybilla: " We did a great job defensively today keeping ourselves in both games. Brody gave us a chance to win and we found a way to do so. He was spectacular. Anytime you get a great start early on a trip like this it is a tone setter and helps our younger guys really see what a competitor can do. We have a lot of work to do offensively. We have a young lineup that we believe will get there. We just haven't clicked yet. Our guys are learning quickly that everything starts and ends on the mound. If the starter does not give us a chance to win we will be in trouble early. What wasn't mentioned above was the relief outing from Dan Conway in the second game. He went five innings allowing only three hits and no runs. It shows that throwing strikes and just competing can go a long way!"
