Tetons Fall to Bismarck State College
The Tetons dropped a MonDak Conference game on the road to the hands of Bismarck State College.
Wilson Rankin got the Tetons on the scoreboard first with a three-pointer that was assisted by Grady Gonsioroski. The Mystics would use a slow run, stretching their lead to 12 with nine minutes remaining. The Tetons would then go on a 9-0 run over the course of two minutes to cut the lead to 3, 26-23. The Mystics would see the last run of the first half go in their favor, outscoring the Tetons 14-6 and taking a 40-29 advantage into the locker room.
"Defensively, we weren't getting to our spots quick enough which was contributing to our miscues in the first half. To Bismarck State's credit, they were really zipping the ball around which made it tougher. Offensively, we started the game a little slow, but we were able to find some rhythm around the midpoint of the half. Unfortunately, we ended the half on a lull that put more pressure on our defense to get stops."
The second half saw a back-and-forth battle with neither team able to get on a run. The Mystics would stretch their lead back to 12 with 10:28 remaining. After a timeout, the Tetons would have a live-ball turnover lead to two points, stretching the Mystics lead to 14. Shortly after, the Mystics would stretch their lead to 17. The Tetons would go on a 10-2 run to cut the Mystics lead to 9. The remaining six minutes would favor the Mystics as they would close the game on a 16-6 run, ultimately winning by a final of 83-64.
"The second half saw us getting to our spots quicker on defense, just didn't contest as well as we needed to. Doesn't matter what level of basketball, it's very difficult to win a game when you allow your opponent to shoot 66% from the floor.
Tetons will be back in action on Monday, January 23rd at Dawson Community College.
