Lexie Stahlman signs for Fall '22
Montana outfielder, Lexie Stahlman, is a big player replenishing the Teton outfield as several sophomore outfielders are heading to new horizons from WSC.
"Replacing players like Allison Nyquist, Terrena Martin, Klaire Morris and Layni Schieffer is a task that has given me many sleepless nights. We are extremely blessed this year to have an outfield that plays as well as these three gals play, which is great for this season, but seemed like a nightmare for next season. It was a nightmare, until we met Lexie. She is a talented kid, great with the glove out in the grass, has a solid arm, good speed and can swing it. We had the opportunity to host her and most of her family on campus a couple months ago and they were all a joy to host, she is joining us with an immense amount of support from back home. She's a sweet kid, but don't let that fool you.. she's tough and determined" - Coach Ward
We excited to introduce you to the Williston Community, tell us a little about you!
Why did you choose Williston State College:
"I fell in love with the atmosphere. Everyone was super friendly and inviting and I loved that. I loved everything about the school!"
You have moved around and played alot of ball, what has all of that been like:
"I was born in a small town called Punxsutawney (Home of the Groundhog, Punxsy Phil) in Pennsylvania. I lived there until the age of 13 when my family and I had an unexpected move to Laurel, Montana. I have been a part of my high school softball team for all four years of high school and I just finished my fourth season playing on the Billings Force Fastpitch travel team. My travel team ended our program as a team by playing our last tournament of our season in the 16U Northern National Championship tournament in Fargo, North Dakota. We won the tournament and became the 16U Northern Nationals Champions! I have been exposed to almost every position on the field but, by far, my favorite position and current position that I play is center field."
Coach Ward mentioned your family, tell us about them:
"My mom and dad are by far my biggest supporters. They are the reason that I am where I am today and I couldn't be more grateful. My younger brother, Cooper, is the reason I fell in love with this sport. He's been playing baseball ever since he could walk and he's who inspired me to give softball a try! My little sister, Alydia is following right behind me as she spends a lot of her time doing softball things. My Papa Dick is my biggest fan and he never fails to watch a game, even if that means opening up Gamechanger since he lives over 1,000 miles away!"
What do you bring to Teton Softball, the WSC campus and the Williston Community?
"I will bring hard work, dedication, and commitment both on and off the field."
How are you feeling about your upcoming season?
"I am very excited for my upcoming season. My high school team won 3rd place in our State tournament last season and we are looking to take the 1st place trophy home this season. We went undefeated last year during our regular season and only lost two games in the postseason, which is why we placed 3rd. With that being said, we have left a mark and I have no doubt that we can do it again!"
What is your best softball memory so far?
"My best softball memory so far is actually from this past high school season. My high school team was down 3-2 and we did not want to ruin our undefeated record. I was up to bat with two girls on base. One was on 3rd base and the other was on 2nd base. It was the bottom of the seventh inning and there were 2 outs. I remember hitting the ball and it going right over the second baseman's head. Both of the girls scored which lead up to winning the game. It was such a memorable experience that I will never forget!"
Sporting achievements (can be from multiple sports):
I lettered in softball my freshman year in high school, was awarded the Clutch Hitter Award and was an Honorable Mention for All Conference. During my junior year, I served as one of the team captains and was awarded the First Team All Conference Award as well as the All State Award. I was also chosen as the Offensive Player of the Year.
My travel team has had many first place wins at many different tournaments. I have gotten to travel to several different states such as Utah, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
OK, we get it you can ball! But what about the classroom:
"I have been a part of the National Honor Society for two years. I have also been a part of "On The Right Track" for four years (you are a part of this group if you have a 3.0 GPA or higher). I have also lettered in academics for four years (letter are earned by having a 3.5 GPA or higher)."
What is one thing (can be softball related but preferably outside of playing softball), that you will always be proud of:
"One thing that I will always be proud of are the achievements of both my brother and sister. They are both following in my footsteps and I am so excited to see what their futures hold. My brother is on his way towards a very successful baseball career and will one day fulfill his dream of becoming a professional. My sister has worked very hard every day to be just like me and my brother. I believe that if it wasn't for my family's love for the sport of softball/baseball that I would not be the same person that I am today!"
