Tetons Split Season-Opening Series in Alamosa
The Williston State College baseball team kicked off their 2025 season with a four-game series against Adams State in Alamosa, Colorado, finishing the weekend with a 2-2 record. With a roster featuring 36 new players, many Tetons were asked to step up and make an immediate impact.
The series opener proved to be a tough start for the Tetons, as they struggled offensively in a 10-0 loss to the Grizzlies. Starting pitcher Matt Thompson battled for four innings, giving his team a chance, but the bats never came around as the Tetons were held scoreless.
WSC bounced back in game two, securing an 11-7 victory behind a strong relief appearance from Nick Shrider. Shrider provided stability on the mound, tossing four and two-thirds innings while allowing just two runs on three hits and striking out five. Alec Vincent led the Tetons' offensive charge, going 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and five RBIs to power WSC to their first win of the season.
Game three saw the Tetons' offensive struggles resurface, as they managed only one run in a 7-1 defeat. Despite a solid effort, they were unable to string together enough hits to keep pace with Adams State.
The series finale turned into a thrilling back-and-forth contest, with the Tetons edging out a 7-6 victory to earn the series split. Closer Anthony Carvajal played a pivotal role, securing a three-inning save by allowing just one run on four hits while striking out six.
With a 2-2 start to the season, the Tetons will now turn their attention to their next challenge, as they head to Tucson, Arizona, for a matchup on March 4th.
