Tetons Dominate Lake Region, Advance to Region 13 Title Game
The Williston State College men's basketball team put on a commanding performance Wednesday night, defeating Lake Region State College 99-68 to secure a spot in the Region 13 championship game.
The Tetons (now advancing to the title game) flexed their dominance in the second half, outscoring the Royals 55-32 after holding a 44-36 halftime lead. Their defensive intensity and efficient offense proved too much for Lake Region, as Williston State held their opponent to just 38.4% shooting from the field and a mere 16.7% from beyond the arc.
Sophomore guard Josiah McDonald led the charge with a stellar 30-point performance, adding eight rebounds and three assists to his stat line. Forward Rex Stirling was a force inside, recording a double-double with 17 points, 14 rebounds, and two assists. The Tetons controlled the glass and tempo throughout the game, preventing the Royals from gaining any momentum.
Williston State's defense suffocated Lake Region's offense, limiting their ability to connect from long range and forcing contested shots all night. The Tetons' dominance in the paint and transition game allowed them to steadily build their lead before pulling away decisively in the second half.
With this victory, the Tetons now set their sights on the Region 13 championship, where they will face Dawson Community College on Sunday in Glendive. Dawson, another powerhouse in the region, will pose a tough challenge, but the Tetons will look to carry their momentum and defensive intensity into the title game as they vie for a championship.
Tip-off for the Region 13 final is set for Sunday, with Williston State aiming to capture the title and continue their postseason run.
