Baseball finishes non-conference play 17-7.
Teton Baseball finished its non-conference schedule at 17-7. They were supposed to have four more games this coming weekend, but they have been cancelled due to the weather. Following the 1-3 start to the season the Tetons started to play better baseball after their short two game set against NDSCS. The Tetons kicked off their spring trip with a four-game sweep over Midland University. This was the first time the Tetons saw their pitching come into form as a hole. "I thought we would have a strong staff this season but after the first five games I started to question it a bit," said head coach Mason Przybilla. "We just weren't finishing and were very tough. The walks and hit batsmen needed to stop." The Tetons got no less than four innings per start in each of the Midland games.
After a couple of travel days, the Tetons were ready to play some Arizona baseball. Unfortunately, the first two games of the trip were rained out. "We had built in off days on the trip to help us reset the starting pitching and manage the bullpen. We ended up losing the off days to replace the games we lost. We ended up playing 14 games in 8 straight days." The Tetons went 10-4 in Arizona including a win over #8 Madison College.
Jalen Denton is leading the Teton offense with 37 hits including 11 extra base hits and 31 RBI's. The Team has been led up to this point by its pitching and defense. "We have a young team with a lot of up and down hitters. We either hit or we didn't, said head coach Mason Przybilla. "We need to find more consistency at the plate. It has been nice to see our pitching and defense step up and help us in ways we don't usually see until later on in the season." Sophomore left-handed pitcher Kody Butt is leading the team in strikeouts with 49. That currently sits at number seven in the country. Freshman righthander Brayden Olson is carrying a 2.77 ERA through 26 innings pitched. Matt Thompson is the current MonDak pitcher of the week. He has thrown 18 innings for the Tetons and has a 3.50 ERA with 37k's.
The Tetons will be back in action next week as they are scheduled to take on Lake Region in the conference opener. We will update with any changes that are made.
